My take on it being a roguelike is that there is randomisation in the level layouts, placement of goals and the loadout of tools at your disposal. I suppose the "permadeath" element is that you'll get a new toolset each restart forcing a different approach but I understand it's a pretty atypical approach. It was fun to watch a complete stranger interact with my game, I appreciate it and the feedback :))
I wish restarting didn't give me a random set of tools, because I found myself constantly restarting for the chance to get something I feel I could work with. It would be nice if the tools were set for a level, or I could choose which ones I wanted to use.
While I understand your issue, that kinda goes against the entire point of the game being about working with what you get given. But I totally get it, that style isn't for everyone.
